Abide SOAP Journal stores your journal entirely on your iPad. We don't run any servers, don't collect your journal content, and don't include analytics or advertising trackers of any kind.
What data we collect
None of your journal content ever leaves your device. Abide does not require an account, does not have a backend server, and the developer cannot see your entries, handwriting, photos, or any other content you create in the app.
What's stored, and where
- Journal entries: your Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer text and ink, saved locally on your iPad using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData).
- Handwriting recognition: Apple's on-device Vision framework recognizes text from your handwritten entries so you can search your journal later. This recognition happens entirely on your iPad — nothing is uploaded.
- Photos: if you attach a photo to an entry, it's saved in the app's local storage on your iPad, never uploaded.
- Display name: an optional name you enter for personalized greetings, stored locally via iOS UserDefaults.
- Preferences: appearance theme, layout choice, translation choice, and reminder settings, stored locally via iOS UserDefaults.
iCloud
Abide does not currently sync your journal to iCloud. iCloud sync is planned for a future update; when shipped, it will use Apple's CloudKit private database, meaning your data would sync only between your own devices and remain inaccessible to the developer.
Scripture text
The KJV and WEB Bible translations are bundled inside the app and work fully offline — looking up a passage never requires a network request. A future update may offer the ESV translation via an online API using your own API key, which would be stored securely in the iOS Keychain; this is not active in the current version.
Notifications
If you enable a daily reminder, it is scheduled entirely on your device using iOS local notifications. No notification data is sent to or processed by any server.
Network access
The current version of Abide makes no network requests. All Scripture lookup, handwriting recognition, and storage happen entirely on-device.
Third-party SDKs and analytics
Abide contains no third-party analytics, crash reporting SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking libraries.
Children's privacy
Abide does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children, because the app does not collect personal data from any user.
Your control over your data
You can delete any entry, or all entries, at any time from within the app. Deleting the app removes all locally stored journal data from your device.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change our privacy practices, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
